Fishing

I had a friend over from kosi bay and we decided we would try out fishing in one of the big dams. We started off with some rapalas but had no success and then we tried some worms and caught 8 bass that day, it was ok but not allot. The next day it was raining and i thought fishing would be a bad idea but eventually my dad convinced us to go. The next 3 hours was the best fishing experience i ever had, between Ewan and myself we caught 36 big bass. We moved 30 of the bass to the new dams. It was an awsome experience and i have been catching fish everyday since then but always tag and release.

Spring

We are half way through spring now and the farm is looking great! Most of the animals have started giving birth so now there are baby zebra, impala and blesbuck running around. It is just such a blessing to see. We are haveing a problem with jackals though so far jackals have killed 7 baby animals. We started throwing all our dead chickens in a specific area in the hopes that the jackal will eat the chickens instead of the babies. The bird life is amazing and we have seen 4 rare duck species. We have also built 2 big dams in the nuts, come december a friend of mine is coming to help us stock it and i am quite excited about that!

Species

With all my going on about how beautiful the farm is, I forgot to list the different species that can be found on the farm. The first is the smallest and for me the most special of them all is the blue duiker which is seen as rare in south africa. Then there are common duiker, bushbuck, common reedbuck, impala, blessbok, blue wildebeest, zebra, kudu, waterbuck, porcupine, jackal, vervet monkeys, rock hyrax and a few other species. It is really spectacular too see so many animals in one area. We have more bird species than I think can be counted and about 3 different fish species. A more detailed list for each sould be out soon.

Beter and beter

I realized that sometimes you can really feel good about something. Those things can be from winning the lotto, when you win money at a casino, getting a new or first car and buying a house but for me the best feeling is being able to wake up on the farm each morning and knowing that I have been blessed enough to be in a paradise in my own little world. I don't recall ever seeing a place more beautiful than this. The animals are getting used to us and we sometimes get within 10 meters from them. I know it will even get better. Really wish the world could see a place like this.

June school holidays

These june holidays that passed were amaizing. I spent all my time on the farm and enjoyed it so much that I'm going back this weekend. The things we did I will never forget. My one best friend came to visit as well and after studying 5 hours we decided we want to go for a walk. We packed few provisions and started marching. Eventually we reached the most beautiful stream I have ever seen in my life. We decided to walk up stream and see what we can see. The stream being as beautiful as it was made us forget about time completely and before we knew it, it was getting dark and we were a long way from the lodge. After a bit of a debate we decided to walk up the mountain and see where we are. It was a steep climb and at times I thought that no human has been near where we walked for years as to say that we crawled would be a understatement. After a lot of bundu bashing we found tall trees, climbed them and found the road about 30 meters from where we were, by this time it was dark and we debated on which road to take to get home the quickest. The agreement was to do more bundu bashing. This resulted in us saving more than an hour and getting home about 7 o clock. Arriving home my sister welcomed us with fresh doughnuts and hot coffey. It is an experience I will never forget. I wish everyone could experience these things.
